Mother's day
Truth be told I haven't been home on mother's day in years. I was always at a bike race or as it is now I live up in Chicago. However one of my best memories in life came on mother's day in 2006. I was at the Joe Martin Stage Race and I needed a big result to justify my contiued full-time cycling. In the first stage on Friday I felt like my lungs were closing on Mt. Gaylor and was cramping on the run in to the finish. Then on Saturday's morning stage I was cramping again and just really down on myself thinking my form was crap. Then in the time trial that afternoon I poured all the emotion of losing my dad and all the stress of doubt and I pulled out a top ten. So going into Sunday's crit (Mother's day) I was top ten and I had never finished the crit with the front group so I was nervous.
At the start I got a call up to the line a d from there I fought to never be more than twenty guys back. Anytime I would get swarmed I would jump and move up to the front, I would battle guys for wheels, I just never gave up. Then I remember comi g through the finish with one to go the crowd was so loud I couldn't believe it, I got chills knowing I was about to get my biggest result ever. After the finish I circled to the van and I called my mom and I remember I just sobbed while I talked to her. I was so sad and happy to have done what I did. I remember I made my cry on the phone and it was just such a happy day. I will never forget that mother's day.
